QCHP Qatar License 2026: 3 Stages Explained

If you are applying for a QCHP Qatar licence, the stage that decides how fast you move is usually not the exam. It is DataFlow. QCHP is now formally the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) within Qatar's Ministry of Public Health, and every application passes through the same three stages: your degree, your verified credentials, and your exam and employer. Credential checking is no longer an optional extra; it is the gateway to the whole process. Here is each stage, and what holds people up.

    Stage 1: Degree eligibility

DHP starts with what you studied and where you are registered. You need a recognised degree and current registration in your home country, and DHP applies one framework tailored to each profession and grade. Under DHP circular DHP/2025/24, a physician's academic programme must run at least six years excluding the internship year, and a dentist's at least five; where the internship year was not completed, a licensed year of practical experience is asked for instead. Required experience is set by profession, specialty, scope of practice, qualification and place of work — DHP's published note puts General Dentists and Pharmacists at two years. A break in practice of under two years needs nothing extra, longer breaks need supervised practice, and a break of more than ten years is not eligible.

    Stage 2: DataFlow verification

Primary source verification runs through the DataFlow Group. You select DHP as your organisation, and DataFlow contacts your university, council and employers directly. You buy a package set by your professional category — QAR 1,210 for physicians and dentists, QAR 990 for nurses, pharmacists and allied health — and extra documents are charged separately. DataFlow states an average of 20 working days once every document and piece of information is in. Most delays start here:

    • Institutions that do not respond, or have closed
    • Name mismatches between your passport, degree and experience letters
    • Unverifiable experience or unexplained gaps in service
    • Documents that are not officially issued or attested

Stage 3: Prometric exam and employer sponsorship

Once DataFlow and the DHP evaluation confirm your eligibility, you book the qualifying exam. It is computer-based, delivered by Prometric, and each profession sits its own paper — 150 multiple-choice questions over three hours, with a cut score of 60% for general practitioners, general dentists and pharmacists and 50% for nurses and allied health. Results are typically shown on screen as soon as you submit. You can complete DataFlow, the exam and a preliminary evaluation before you have a job, but the final licence is tied to employer sponsorship: a licensed Qatari facility sponsors your licence and residency, and the licence is activated under that employer.

The 2026 change that catches people out: some exams you may already hold exempt you from DHP's Prometric exam — USMLE Step 2 or PLAB Part 1 for general practitioners, NCLEX-RN for nurses, NAPLEX or PEBC for pharmacists, and others listed in DHP circular DHP/2025/19. But since 1 January 2026, DHP accepts an exempting exam only if it is valid and carries a verification report from a verification company. Qatari nationals, the offspring of Qatari women and graduates of Qatar's universities are exempt as well.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP) is now formally the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP), within Qatar's Ministry of Public Health. It is the same licence, and most professionals still search for it as QCHP.

Yes. DHP verifies your credentials through DataFlow primary source verification as part of licensing. Your package depends on your professional category — QAR 1,210 for physicians and dentists, QAR 990 for nurses, pharmacists and allied health — and DataFlow states an average of 20 working days.

Not if you hold an exam on DHP's exemption list — such as USMLE Step 2 or PLAB Part 1 for general practitioners, NCLEX-RN for nurses or NAPLEX for pharmacists — and it is verified: since 1 January 2026 DHP accepts none without a verification report. Qatari nationals and graduates of Qatar's universities are also exempt.

Partly. You can complete DataFlow, sit the exam and obtain a preliminary evaluation before you have an employer, but the final licence is tied to employer sponsorship and is activated only once a licensed Qatari facility sponsors you.
