How to Get an SCFHS License in Saudi Arabia: 5 Steps

The action plan rather than the overview: what to do at each stage of an SCFHS licence, on which portal, how long SCFHS itself says each stage takes, and the mistakes that send files back.

Step 1: Open Your Mumaris+ Account and Apply for Classification

Everything at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties runs through Mumaris+, its practitioner portal. Create your account there and apply for the Professional Classification service. SCFHS describes classification as the first step: you cannot apply for professional registration until you hold one. You can apply from outside Saudi Arabia, and SCFHS says the first stage does not require a valid work permit in the Kingdom. Register on Mumaris+ before you go to DataFlow — DataFlow's SCFHS reference kit puts it in that order, because what DataFlow verifies follows the classification you apply for. For SCFHS's role, the profession pathways and the full cost picture, see our Saudi Arabia (SCFHS) licensing guide.

    • Where: Mumaris+ (SCFHS practitioner portal)
    • Mistake: applying for Professional Registration first — classification always comes before it
    • Mistake: picking the wrong service — Classification, Qualification Study and Certificate Recognition are separate Mumaris+ services
    • Mistake: applying under the wrong specialty or title, which changes what has to be verified
    02

    Step 2: Complete DataFlow Verification

SCFHS verifies every certificate issued outside Saudi Arabia through DataFlow, which contacts the issuing university, council or employer directly. Submit through DataFlow's SCFHS portal. DataFlow's official SCFHS kit prices a new licence at SAR 500 for nurses, pharmacists, dental assistants, allied health and technicians, and SAR 600 for physicians, dentists and fresh graduates, with SAR 300 for each additional document. DataFlow's SCFHS FAQ gives 15 to 25 working days from payment and a complete set of documents. SCFHS needs the final DataFlow report attached to your classification application, so finish this step before you expect classification to move. To price your own file, use the DataFlow cost calculator.

    • Where: DataFlow's SCFHS portal
    • Mistake: submitting documents in stages — anything added later costs extra and delays the report
    • Mistake: a name that differs between documents without a name-change certificate
    • Note: DataFlow itself does not require attestation, apostille, translations or originals; SCFHS or your recruiter may, so check with them
    • If a report comes back Discrepancy or Unable to Verify, DataFlow allows one free appeal within 180 days, unless the result came from missing information
    03

Step 3: Get Your Professional Classification

Classification is SCFHS granting you a professional rank after it studies and authenticates your qualifications and experience and evaluates you professionally. The rank sets your title — for example Technician, Specialist, Senior Specialist or Consultant, and for physicians titles such as Resident, Registrar, Senior Registrar and Consultant — and with it your scope and pay band. SCFHS classifies each file by one of three routes, each with its own published service level: a direct decision in 7 working days, a practical evaluation in 35 working days, or an electronic written exam through Prometric or Pearson VUE in 30 working days.

    • Where: Mumaris+ — the Professional Classification service
    • Needed: the qualification, internship certificate and academic record
    • Needed: a clinical training completion certificate, where the qualification includes training
    • Needed: Ministry of Education equivalence for certificates issued outside Saudi Arabia
    • Needed: your home-country licence or registration, or an experience certificate where your country has none
    • Mistake: leaving out the equivalence or the internship certificate — both are on SCFHS's own requirement list
    04

Step 4: Sit the Prometric Exam or SNLE — or Be Exempt

If SCFHS routes your file to the written exam, you book it on the Prometric website through SCFHS's classification-exam service, which lists a separate exam for each specialization. Nurses sit the Saudi Nursing Licensure Examination (SNLE). SCFHS's applicant guide sets it at 200 multiple-choice questions, in two parts of 100 questions with 120 minutes each, with a pass mark of 500 on a 200–800 scale, and allows up to four attempts a year. Not everyone sits an exam: SCFHS can classify a file by direct decision or by practical evaluation instead, and SCFHS decides which route applies to you.

    • Where: Prometric, booked through SCFHS's classification-exam service
    • Mistake: sitting twice in the same testing window — only the first result counts
    • Mistake: leaving attempts to the end of the year — scheduling them is the candidate's responsibility
    • Mistake: preparing from a generic question bank — each specialization has its own exam
    05

Step 5: Register and Activate with Your Employer

Professional Registration is what lets you practise in the Kingdom. It comes after classification and requires lawful residence in Saudi Arabia, which is why it is the step your employer makes possible: you need a valid resident ID, and the health facility issues a job identification letter. SCFHS's service level for registration is 5 working days. Registration is valid for two years, and you can renew it from three months before it expires, once you have the required continuing professional development hours — 20 for technicians, 40 for specialists and pharmacists, and 60 for doctors. Your certificates are printed from My Certificates in Mumaris+.

    • Where: Mumaris+ — the Professional Registration service
    • Mistake: a job identification letter older than three months, or one missing the specialty, rank, start date or personnel-affairs signature and stamp
    • Mistake: a resident ID that is not valid on the day you submit
    • Mistake: letting registration lapse instead of renewing in its final three months
    06

    What It Costs

Only the DataFlow portion has an official published price: SAR 500 or SAR 600 for a new licence depending on your category, plus SAR 300 per additional document. SCFHS's own classification and registration fees and the exam fee are separate and set by SCFHS and the exam vendor, so confirm them on Mumaris+ before you pay. For a nurse-by-nurse breakdown of the DataFlow side, see DataFlow fees for nurses.

    Frequently Asked Questions

In five steps: open a Mumaris+ account and apply for Professional Classification, complete DataFlow verification, receive your classification from SCFHS, sit the Prometric exam or SNLE if your file is routed to one, then complete Professional Registration once you have lawful residence and a job identification letter from your employer.

Yes. SCFHS lets you apply for Professional Classification through Mumaris+ from outside the Kingdom, and the first stage does not require a valid work permit. Professional Registration is different: it requires lawful residence in Saudi Arabia, so it is completed once you are there with your employer.

SCFHS publishes service levels for its own steps: 7 working days for classification by direct decision, 35 for practical evaluation, 30 for the electronic written exam route, and 5 for professional registration. DataFlow's SCFHS FAQ gives 15 to 25 working days for verification from payment and a complete set of documents.

Not always. SCFHS classifies each file by direct decision, practical evaluation or an electronic written exam, and decides which applies to you. If it is the exam, you book it through Prometric for your specialization; nurses sit the SNLE, which is 200 multiple-choice questions with a pass mark of 500 on a 200–800 scale.

Two years. You can apply to renew from three months before it expires, and renewal needs continuing professional development hours: 20 for technicians, 40 for specialists and pharmacists, and 60 for doctors. Registration certificates are printed from My Certificates in Mumaris+.
